Repetition in fashion and tattoos

Repetition in fashion and tattoos

I have a [tattoo of the moon phases]( on the inside of my forearm. I love everything about it, but since I got it, I’ve stopped buying/wearing clothing or jewelry featuring moon imagery if my tattoo is exposed because I’m afraid I’ll look… well, like a lunatic*. I feel weirdly self-conscious that it is too much, you know?

So I’m wondering what you guys think—is it too repetitive or “matchy-matchy” to wear clothing and accessories that are similar to tattoos one may have?

*I’m sorry. It was begging for it.

Ahhh I do the exact same thing with my tattoos. Idk it’s probably silly but I feel it intensely.

I think that there is a difference between a general theme and then being covered head to toe in one kind of imagery. If I saw someone with a moon tattoo and moon necklace I might think “they must really like the moon” but I wouldn’t necessarily think it was weird.

I only have one tattoo but my boyfriend has several and there are multiple variations of skulls or skeletons and he still wears t-shirts with similar imagery. I may be biased but I don’t think he looks silly lol.

I’ve felt the same way and did this with owls years ago when I got an owl tattoo. I really love flowers and have noticed I have a lot of floral in my closet. I hope if I decide to get a flower tattoo I don’t feel that way about all flowers 🙁

I actually understand where this is coming from. I think your tattoo is small enough though that no one would look at you weird for wearing something lunar related.

I have brightly colored hair and I always shy away from wearing the same color as my hair, lest I be the crazy lady who wears teal literally head to toe.

No, i don’t think it’s repetitive or matchy-matchy. I’ve never really given thought to it, partly because my tattoos are rarely featured in jewellery (rooks, snails, moths, hungry ghosts, lilies). But mostly because I think it’s more like matching your belt to your shoes, rather than wearing too much.

Plus, I presume you got moons tattooed on your because you like moon imagery. So…it makes complete sense that you would own other moon imagery.
