What is your favourite “unique” item in your closet?

Most people have a style they lean to, but most also have statement pieces or unique items to spice things up, be it jewellery or a dress or even a graphic tee. What’s something that maybe shouldn’t fit in your everyday look but you love?

For mine, I can’t decide, because I have clothing from lace skirts and collared tops to ripped jeans and hot topic tee shirts. My best answer would be a [galaxy print circle skirt](https://hottopic.scene7.com/is/image/HotTopic/10840227_hi?$pdp_hero_zoom$) (which is much more flared when I wear it) that people are often surprised I wear, more likely for the skirt part than anything.

Also this [gengar hat](https://goo.gl/images/Dfg18L) that some stranger complimented when I was walking downtown (I actually get compliments every time I wear it). Not the biggest fan of hats, but I’m willing to put those feelings aside for this one.

*edit, photos and another item~

[This ring](https://store-macabregadgets.com/products/zeus-ring)? No one around me owns it and it feels very much like a “Lumen-ring”. I’ve been into mythologies (Greco-roman and others) for a long time and studied a lot of Latin (and some Greek). I took Latin for 10 years and went to college thinking I would be a classics major (and also a math major)–my current job is so unrelated to this and most of my friends are engineers (I recently made one acquaintance that has a ‘similar background to me’—it was like finding a friend in a foreign country) that it’s just a reminder of a big part of my life.

Also it makes Every. Single. Outfit. Look. Deliberate. And also elevated? I wear it with academic-ish elbow patch sweaters to rough and tumble leather jackets + flannel to sharp little cocktail dresses and it never feels out of place for me. I think this site has a lot of pieces like that, actually.

1- Kate Moss x Topshop black feather [dress](https://mllekarensofie.files.wordpress.com/2014/04/1520kate-moss-feather-dress.jpg): Replica of the one she wore in Cannes in the 90’s. It’s a little eccentric for an everyday civilian like me, but that’s why I love it.

I blame the size of my closet on the fact that my wardrobe is pretty much statement pieces! I love Kate Spade and things that are just the right amount of kitschy without veering *too* twee. A lot of it is subtle, like the [Sophia Webster Bibi Butterfly flats](https://imgur.com/a/u3YcB), which aren’t immediately obvious, or a [lace skirt](https://imgur.com/a/eCzwZ) that only a closer look will reveal is made up of pineapples. I do have some louder pieces, as well, and my favorite is probably either my [flamingo party skirt](https://imgur.com/a/GDeus) (image not me) or my [Aquazurra flats.](https://imgur.com/a/OScrx)

This jacket. [Imgur](https://i.imgur.com/CZgW6bx.jpg) It’s fitted, and so easy to wear. The bright green color might be off putting to some, but it is very versatile, and I love it.

I can’t remember when I bought it, but apparently at some point the tag annoyed me, so I snipped it off. I gained some weight, and couldn’t wear it for a few years, and now it fits perfectly.

I’d buy it again and again, if I had any idea whatsoever where it came from! It’s wool, and has just a little bit of damage from a moth infestation. (that will haunt me forever)

I have a bright blue high-low skirt. It has beautiful watercolor flowers on it, and it drapes like wow. Usually pair it with a black tank, black wedges, and a jean jacket to seal the deal.

My ex controlled a lot of my clothing choices. I bought it when I was starting to gain independence and he didn’t like it. Fast forward a few months through the breakup and recovery. I wore it out for the first time and met the guy I’m dating now 🙂

OKAY LADIES HERE IS THE STORY OF THE MAGICAL ROMPER BECAUSE IT IS THE BEST PIECE OF CLOTHING I HAVE EVER FOUND.

Summer 2017, about one week freshly broken up with who I thought was the love of my live. And, as you would know it, our once-shared-favorite-band was playing. I was in that phrase of the break up where I would kind of crumple at random times, or show up at friend’s places with puffy eyes and a was of tissues. Great stuff. Lots of tears. So, the day of the show, I have been crying, and I take my sad sack of self-pity up to a thrift store. In my head, I’m envisioning the perfect statement outfit: something pink, or denim, that I can dance in, looks cute with sneakers, etc. I didn’t need to check all the boxes. I had spent all morning sobbing into a cup of coffee, y’know. I just wanted something that would perk me up a bit. And then, it happened.

Something caught my eye. It was pink – and denim. I pulled it out – a romper. I checked the size – my size. I flipped it over – BACKLESS. I tried it on – perfect fit. AND: *IT HAS POCKETS!!!!*

I don’t know how it found me in my time of need, but I will never, EVER part with this wonderful romper. It is magical. God, I think I’m going to wear it today! Weeee!!!

My style can be pretty out there, and I don’t usually say no to something I’m drawn to (always getting the ‘you’re so brave’ compliment-insult). [This](https://imgur.com/a/Vwzi5) is probably one of my favorite unique pieces that I actually wear all the time (pic from my closet app, ha). It’s super warm, soft, and wildly colorful. It hangs to my knees so I can throw it over jeans and a tee and still have a unique look.
Something super unique I have *not* been able to figure out yet has been [This set](https://imgur.com/a/CUQ65), it’s a vintage Dolce & Gabbana skirt suit with an aggressively 70s print that I got for all of $12 (NO LIE). It fits like a glove, I love it sooo much, but it’s such a Look^TM that I’m having trouble figuring out where to wear it. It’s a LOT for my casual office.

These are probably the most unique items in my closet:

[Fish bracelet from my hometown](https://imgur.com/gallery/C4kJ3) I got this when I graduated high school almost 8 years ago. I’ve only taken it off a few times in those years, and is one of my most prized possessions as well.

[Italian Glass Cresent Moon Earrings](https://imgur.com/gallery/bXdnj) I got these at an antique store in my city, and they had clip-on backs. The owner had a jeweler solder on stud backs instead!

[Cat Button-Down](https://imgur.com/gallery/fbm3g) This is from H&M, so not exactly a rare item, but it’s one of my favorite pieces. It makes me feel great when I wear it, and people always comment positively on it!

Certainly unique but not “mine,” per se, but I have something of my dad’s that I adore: a super old Hard Rock Cafe denim jacket COVERED in enamel pins. He started collecting Hard Rock Cafe puns from different locations and it grew into enamel pins from other places he’s traveled to, shows he’s seen, museums, etc. The jacket has to be about 30 years old, at least. I’ve never worn it but it will always have a special place in my closet 🙂

What I love about it is the color, I definitely don’t have a lot of clothes in this shade of blue. And what’s so neat about the pattern is that, from afar, it looks like…just some weird curvy lines and circles, but plenty of people have asked me, “Are those…wait a minute, are those *octopus arms* on your dress?” which acts as a great conversation starter if I’m wearing it at a party or something.

I’ve always kinda liked that sort of thing, but never purchased anything similar.

A really detailed silver ram’s head pendant. I believe my mother said it’s Victorian?

A really colorful pair of Converse. They’re a pattern of overlapping diamonds in pink, white, grey, navy, teal, and royal blue. They’re surprisingly versatile and make any outfit more interesting/pulled together.

My style is pretty understated and minimal and while this isn’t that unique as far as fashion goes, it feels like a statement piece to me. I have this [AG denim dress](https://i.imgur.com/7QTDvow.jpg) I bought from eBay a couple of years ago and I love wearing it with bright coloured heels or boots in the warmer months.

I haven’t seen anyone else wear anything even similar where I live and people often comment things like “wow that’s a lot of denim”, “is that a dress made of jeans?” etc. It looks quite stark when buttoned all the way up, I guess, but I love wearing it.

And old lady snagged it from right under my nose and my friend and I stalked her around the store until she put it down. I’m not sure how many degrees of separation there are between me and the original owner, but these jackets were only for members of the band/crew. It has the name “Philip” embroidered in the front.

Mine would be the [Wine Burned Velvet Maxi](https://imgur.com/a/zAvbH) from Black Milk! The color is so stunning and it moves beautifully. Every time I wear it I get a ton of compliments 🙂
